The usual reasons
- Tight hamstrings from sitting a lot
- Stiff hips that limit the fold
- A lower back that feels protective
- Trying to force the stretch too quickly
Why forcing does not work well
The toe touch is often treated like a pass-or-fail test. In reality, it is just one movement pattern. If you chase it aggressively, the body often tightens more. If you improve the whole chain around it, the fold usually comes more naturally.
What to focus on instead
Work on hamstring length, hip mobility, spine movement, and breathing. A supported forward fold, gentle hip work, and short repeated sessions tend to help far more than bouncing or yanking.
You do not need to touch your toes to be healthy. The real goal is to move with more ease and less fear.
If toe touching is one of the things you would love to regain, Move Better helps you build the mobility and flexibility around it step by step.
